CHANDIGARH: Mandagadde Rama Jois, a judge of the Kamataka high court was made chief justice of Punjab and Haryana high court in place of B.C. Verma who has retired. Jois was sworn in a quiet ceremony by Haryana governor Dhanak Lal Mandal. Normally it takes a few weeks to make such appointments.  Evidently, the Indian government does not want to take chances in view of the fact that the next in seniority in the high court is Justice S.S. Sodhi, who was once associated with certain enquiries into complaints of police highhandedness.
