AMRITSAR: Thirty companies of the Punjab police are being sent to Jammu and Kashmir to combat the militants there.
Highly placed official sources said here that the decision to this effect ‘was taken al high-level meeting of senior officers at Chandigarh recently. It was decided that some senior IPS “officers who are attached to Punjab, ‘would also accompany the force, to supervise the ant militant operations. This learnt that one superintendent of police from each district would be end to the state.
Sources said that the decision to send the Punjab police to Jammu and Kashmir was taken apparently keeping in mind the move to hold elections in the stricken border state where
Governor’s rule is scheduled to end on July 17 next.
A senior police officer said that Punjab police will take its specialized bullet proof vehicles, along with the sophisticated firearms.
Meanwhile it is learnt that the Punjab Inspector General of Police (Border Range), D.R. Bhatti and other senior officers of the slate police recently went to Srinagar to discuss the current situation.
