Chandigarh: Even after the major reshuffle in the administrative set up of Police in Punjab by the Chief Minister, S. Surjit Singh Barnala, there appear no signs of improvement in the law and order situation.

There have occurred more than a dozen incidents in just 48 hours involving mostly thefts and robberies and a young Home guards employee was shot dead near Batala. The assailants took away his rifle and ammunition also. In another

Incident one Home guards man, Sarwan Ram, was shot dead and the other seriously wounded in Dera Bassi near Patiala on the same night. The wounded is reportedly in a serious condition in the P.G.I. at Chandigarh.

In Ludhiana district a person was shot dead by those who took away his vehicle. Mr. Barnala called an emergent meeting of the senior officials in Chandigarh and discussed the deteriorating law and order situation.
