NEW DELHI, India, Dec.6: Reuters: The northeast Indian State of Tripura was paralysed by a 24hour protest strike called by leftist parties today after a massacre of 13 villagers by tribal guerrillas, the Press Trust of India (PTI) said.

The villagers were shot dead on Thursday by guerrillas of the Ti pura National Volunteers (TNV) campaigning to drive Bengali settlers from the former princely state between Bangladesh and Burma.

PTI said that the attack brought the death toll in a TNV offensive to 81. It said the protest strike closed shops, schools, businesses, banks and government offices across the Marxist ruled state.
