LUDHIANA: Simranjit Singh said he has not violated the Constitution of India by demanding self-determination for the Sikhs.

He said the demand for a plebicite was within the laws of the land as India had agreed to abide by all international laws and UN resolutions under article 51 of the Constitution.

He said India backed the elections held recently by the UN in Namibia and was demanding such elections in Kampuchea. “I am the first Sikh leader who understands the Constitution, I am not a confused man and I am giving answers according to the laws,” he said.

He called for May 11 to be observed as a black day as this was the day of the murder of democracy in Punjab. He appealed to all Punjabis to wear black badges, turbans and dupattas.

He said he was indifferent if his Lok Sabha membership was lost for not taking oath. He insisted on his Constitutional right to carry the Kirpan. “‘No one raised any objection to the Kirpan when | attended the national integration council meeting,” he said.
