OTTAWA: About 25 members of the Ottawa Sikh Society including the executive members of the Society met with the Editorial Board of the Ottawa citizen a prominent newspaper of the Canada’s capital region on January 11, 1989. Dr. Keith Spicer, the Chief Editor welcomed the Sikhs and the editors of various departments gave a tour of the newspapers news gathering, decision making and printing facilities. This was one of the most informative tours for the Sikhs. Mr. Bhupinder Singh Sandhanwalia gave a brief lecture on the Sikh religion while Mr. Bikram Singh Basarke gave a brief on the Sikh history and the present struggle of the Sikh nation. Mr. Dhillon mentioned some historical facts. The discussions were mutually informative. Violations of the Human Rights of the Sikhs in Punjab and India were discussed.

Editors of various departments introduced themselves and the tasks they perform. The Sikhs were invited to give their input whenever necessary in order to make the reporting process more factual and less biased. Although the bad news sells but money is not everything in life, after all.

The positive role of free media in promoting Human dignity and respect for Ethno cultural dignity ‘was stressed.
