FARIDABAD: The state Janata Dal chief, Mr Om Parkash Chautala, has reiterated that Haryana will not accept any other formula except the Indira Gandhi award of 1970 to resolve its territorial dispute with Punjab. Nothing less than that award will be acceptable to Haryana,” he told newsmen here recently.

Asked to comment on the Punjab Governor’s proposal to transfer Chandigarh to Punjab without any compensation to resolve the territorial dispute, the Janata Dal (S) general secretary said Mr Virendra Verma has exceeded his brief by Suggesting such a formula.

The Centre, he demanded, should take over the construction of the SYL canal project as it was the lifeline of Haryana. The state, he said, attached top priority to the early completion of the canal. He regretted that after the assassination of the engineer in chief and a superintending engineer, work on the canal had come to a standstill.

Earlier, presiding over a function organised by the Faridabad complex administration, he referred to the changes of at the Centre and said a grassroots worker who was dedicated to the cause of upliftment of the poor had been elected Prime Minister.
