Chandigarh: The Chief of the Army staff Gen. A. S. Vaidya yesterday stressed the need for total preparedness of the armed forces to meet any eventuality in the wake of procurement of sophisticated weapons by Pakistan and China, Addressing an army same an at Chandigarh, the army chief said that a majority of the ‘weapons procured by Pakistan can be used on plains bordering Punjab and Rajasthan. Pakistan has procured sophisticated APC tank, naval missiles, S-16 aircraft and missile fitted cobra helicopter for secret penetration. China, he said ‘was in possession of nuclear weapon. Weapons procured by Pakistan were chiefly distributed in hills and snow claimed areas. He said it was noted to police that Pakistan was getting the latest arms supplies of Soviets through ‘Afghanistan but these weapons could not be used in mountains, Although India has been a strong supporter of World Peace, but attmed forces could not afford to mess, Gen, Vaidya said it.
