Says Indian Police

NEW DELHI, March 8, Reuter, India: Fully clothed policemen today prevented Hindu worshippers from carrying out a traditional annual nude worship ceremony in Chandragutti village in India’s southern Karnataka state.

Several hundred police surrounded the village, the Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency reported, in a show of force which kept away worshippers and sight seers.

When a smaller force of police and social workers tried to prevent the ceremony last year, outraged devotees stripped some of them naked. “The nude worship will become a thing of the past”, said one police officer after today’s more successful operation.

Temple priests. Fearing the wrath of the UN worshipped god, say they plan an atonement ceremony instead, PTI reported.
