BEIJING (PTI): Chinese president Yang Shangkun said March 2 that Beijing was willing to further the friendship with India and suggested the two countries work together to improve their international status.

Accepting credentials from new Indian ambassador, Chandrasekhar Dasgupta, at the great hall of the people, president Yang said “we cherish our friendly relations and cooperation with India.”

“The Chinese government is willing to work with the Indian government to further friendship between the two countries.” In his response, Dasgupta said India China friendship and cooperation was important not only for the two countries but for the region and international community as well.
