While seven persons were abducted by the Peoples War Group of guerrillas, called Naxalites because of the origin of their movement in the Naxalbari village of West Bengal, V Srihari, a forest guard, was kidnapped by the Phani Bakshi faction of the Chandra Pulla Reddy group of Naxalites from his relative’s house. Srihari had been threatened earlier, by the ultras.

The suspected radical was produced before a magistrate, who remanded him to judicial custody. The Naxalites have been demanding that he either be released or produced in a court within 24 hours.
