PATIALA: Dr. H.K. Manmohan Singh, has been appointed Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University. He retired as a member of the Punjab Public Service Commission recently.
An eminent economist and scholar Dr. H.K. Manmohan Singh is professor emeritus. After serving as Reader in the Delhi School of Economics he joined Punjabi University as Head of the Department of Economics in 1964 and retired in January 1987. He remained Dean Student Welfare from more than a decade.
Dr. H.K. Manmohan Singh has also taught in the University of Manchester in England and Pennsylvania University in the USA. Dr. Manmohan Singh was born at Rawalpindi in Pakistan on January 28, 1927.
He passed his M.A. (economics) from S.D. College Shimia. He was the first Indian to pass M.A. (economics) with distinction from University of London in 1959 from where he did his Ph.D. in 1962.
He is visiting Professor of Bucknell University in USA.
During the recent years he has been a member of the panel on economics UGC Planning Commission editorial board in economics and many other bodies on economic affairs.
