ISLAMABAD (PTI): Indian Cricket Board President Madhavrao Scindia will head the India Pakistan Sri Lanka Joint Management Committee which was formally launched April 2 for organizing the 1996 World Cup. The meeting, held in Lahore, also appointed a 12member committee after the preliminary meeting of the Delegates from the three nations, reports reaching here from Lahore said.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Scindia, who was designated president of the Joint Committee at the meeting.

While the Pakistan Supreme Court Judge and president of the Board of Control of Cricket in Pakistan (BCCP), Justice Nasim Hassan Shah was named the chairman of the Joint Management Committee, other members of the committee included is Bindra, D.C.Agassi, Amrit Mathur (India), Nusrat Azeem, Ashiq Qureshi and Khalid Mehmood (Pakistan) and T.Femando and Neil Peirera (Sri Lanka).

Jagmohan Dalmia was appointed convener-cum secretary of the committee, Sharif Rafi, the Pakistan Cricket Control Board Secretary, was named the treasurer and overall in charge of the financial aspects.

Dalmia related the background of the successful bid by the three countries at the International Cricket Council meeting held in London last January.

The final composition of all the teams would be known after the ICC trophy, he said, adding that thereafter “we will draw up our schedule and other things.”

The contestants would be placed in two groups with India and Pakistan appearing in separate pools.

A total of 37 matches will be played and each innings will be of 50 overs, While India will be allocated 17 matches, Pakistan will have 16 matches. Sri Lanka has been allocated four matches. The final will be held at Lahore.
