BOMBAY: Maharashtra’s minister for finance and planning Hashu Advani (69) died at Jaslok hospital early morning of July 22nd.

The BJP leader was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital on May8 for the treatment of cirrhosis of liver. He later suffered from renal failure. For a brief period, he showed signs of improvement, but during the past fortnight his condition deteriorated steadily, according to party sources. Last Friday, he went into a coma, In 1988, he underwent a coronary bypass surgery. Mr. Hashu Advani was a bachelor.

Chief minister Manohar Joshi, president of the city unit of the BJP Ved Prakash Goyal former corporates, Sunder Kumar Rani and Srichand Talreja, and a number of BJP workers and citizens of Chembur rushed to the hospital on hearing the news of Mr. Advani’s death. A wreath was placed by Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighc on behalf of Sena chief Bal Thackeray at the Swami Vivekananda college where the body ‘was kept in the afternoon, Governor of Himachal Pradesh Sudhakarrao Naik and BRCC president Murli Deora also placed wreaths. Mr, Advani was later cremated at the Chembur municipal crematorium with full state honors.
