NAIROBI, Reuter; World Champions Paul Kipkoech and Billy Konchellah dealt a double blow to Kenyan Olympic hopes on Friday when they failed to qualify for next month’s sequel games.

Kipkoech, winner of the 10,000 meters gold at the Rome World Championships last year, withdrew feeling ill just over halfway through the race at the national trials while 800 meters world champion Konchellah failed to turn up for his event.

The pair, who were expected to form the heart of the Kenyan challenge for track and field gold in Sequel, now look set to miss the games, The Kenya Amateur Athletics Association has ruled that only the first three finishers in each event during this week’s rails stand a chance of being selected,
