From Our Correspondent ABOHAR: Punjab’s Amarbir Singh Kang scored 344 points out of 360 to set a new national record in the 20metre event of the National Subjunior Archery Champion ship held at Faridabad recently.

Kang was tied for the first place with a Bihar archer, But on the number of at tempts, he had to settle for the second place it is the first time that a Punjab archer has secured a position in nationals.

The performance of Kang is all the more laudable keeping in view the step motherly treatment meted out to the game in Punjab by the Sports Authority of India.

Amarbir Singh Kand did not receive any proper specialized coaching. He received initial coaching under Dindyal and Him mat Chauhan, archers of the State.

Amarbir Singh Kang led the team to second place with the help of Ambirsh Kumar and Amandeep Singh. It is a pity that the Punjab State Archery Association has done nothing to encourage archery in Punjab. On the contrary, the game has been ‘excluded from the gradation list of the Pun jab Government.
