NEW DELHI: India slipped down to fourth position in group B going down 14 tamely to the U’S. in their last league fixture ‘of the Intercontinental cup women’s hockey tournament here.

For India, who trailed 02 at the breather, even a draw would have ensured a third place in the group, The home team ‘will now play for the fifth to eight positions in the tournament, a situation that would not have altered even if they had won, they only difference is that they will now run into a tougher opponent, most probably Ireland.

India surrendered the initial territorial advantage to the U.S., whose second penalty comer in the 15th minute was struck home by Trace Griesbaum for the first goal.

Sheryl Johnson, Marcia Pankratz increased the lead a little later. Barbera Marois converted her tearm’s sixth penalty ‘comer soon after the change of ends and, with seven minutes to go, Marois helped Griesbaum to complete the tally.

DELHI: The United States of America notched up their second win of the Intercontinental Cup women’s Hockey tournament defeating Malaysia 30 in a group B League match in the Capital Tuesday.

With four points from four matches, they have drawn level with India and the match between the two teams Wednesday would be crucial for deciding the third place from the Group.

Barbara Marois converted her team’s first penalty comer in the very first minute to give USA the lead. Marcia Pankratz took advantage of a pass from the left three minutes later to increase the lead.

Early in the second session Malaysian goal keeper Rawiyah blocked a Maoris shot. In the scramble that followed. Mary Koboldt put the ballin for the third and last goal.
