LUCKNOW (PTI): The chief minister of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Kalyan Singh July 21 urged prime minister P.V.Narasimha Rao and union home minister $.B.Chavan to join in efforts for persuading the saints and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (world Hindu Council) leaders to stop the construction activity at Ayodhya and comply with the Allahabad high court order of July 15.

In a letter to Chavan the chief minister said that the state govt. had been making all out efforts to implement the high court order and senior party leaders like Vijyaraje Scindia were on the job in Ayodhya. The Faizabad district administration he said had so far had several rounds of talks with the saints and sadhus to stop construction activity at the Shilanyas site. Kalyan Singh also took exception to the deployment of additional central para military forces in the state without consulting the State govt. In a telephone conversation with the union home minister S.B.Chavan on the developments in Ayodhya district regarding the disputed Ramjanam Bhoomi-Babri Masjid shrine Singh said the state govt had been holding talks with the saints and VHP leaders to persuade them to help implement the high court order of July 15 staying construction work near the temple site.
