HYDERABAD: The prominent leader and President of Guru Nanak Gurdwara Prahandhak Committee Bidar engineering college there Joga Singh was shot dead at his residence on March 30. The police said the five assailants came: in a Maruti car and fired at a close range while he was watching television along with other members of the family. Joga Singh collapsed on the sofa he was sitting on. Subsequently police arrested three Sikh youths and claimed to have seized a foreign made revolver and 16 rounds of ammunition in connection with the gunning down of Joga Singh. A Sikh youth said to be involved in assassination is said to have shot himself when police pounced upon him in the Kishan Bagh area of the old city of Hyderabad.
According to police sources Mohinder Singh (30) one of the four assailants was chased in the Kishan Bagh on Thursday he fired two shots from his revolver to scare away the police and later put two shots into his head.
Joga Singh was cremated at Puranpul in Hydrabad on April 1. Representatives of several gurdwaras were amongst the mourners.
Meanwhile all institutions run by the Guru Nanak Dev Education foundation remained closed for two days as a mark of respect for Joga Singh who was the foundation’s chairman.
