GURGAON: The Jat leaders of northern India are planning to mount pressure on the central and state governments to include the community in the list of backward classes to be prepared following the Supreme Court verdict on reservations.

Several leaders have been exchanging views on the line of action to be adopted. At a meeting held in New Delhi recently former Union deputy minister Jagdeep Dhankhar was appointed interim convener of a forum to work out a strategy. The convener of the recently-formed “Forum of Agricultural and Rural MPs” S.S.Surjewala agrees with Dhankhars assessment that a majority of the Jat’s are marginal or small farmers but wants all the agricultural communities to be included in the BC list.
