NEW DELHI, India, Aug. 10, Reuter: Japan wants closer economic and political ties with India, Japanese Foreign Minister Tadashi Kuranari said today.

In a brief statement on arrival Kuranari said he hoped his one day visit would promote political, economic and cultural relations between the two countries.

During his stay in New Delhi Kuranari will hold talks with Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who also holds the External Affairs. portfolio, Finance Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari and the Minister of State for External Affairs, K. Natwar Singh. He will also meet President Ramaswamy Venkataraman,

Japan stands fourth, behind Britain, the United States and West Germany in terms of total investment in India.

The balance of trade overwhelmingly favors Japan. India imported goods worth 2.6 billion dollars from Japan and exported goods totaling 656 million dollars in 198586, Kuranari will leave tomorrow for Sri Lanka where he is scheduled to meet President Junius Jayewardene.
