BANGKOK (PTI): The Indian government is considering providing all concessions to nonresident Indians that are normally available under dual citizenship without actually granting the dual citizenship as such, Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao said April 9. Addressing a news conference here, Rao said his government was considering the proposal for and would “not take too long” for giving a concrete shape to the proposal.

He said it would not take too long for the government to evolve a pattern by which a person could have these advantages and concessions without actually being given dual citizenship.

“I do realize the advantages, but on the other hand we have many handicaps, certain amount of insurmountable difficulties,” he said adding that some pattern would be evolved to provide the facility to nonresident Indians.

Rao described his visit as very fruitful and constructive.

He said his discussions with both the government and representatives ofthe industry and commerce and a cross section of Thai intellectuals were very encouraging and expressed the hope that his visit would help further strengthen the existing relations.

He said both the sides have decided to undertake a one year time bound program and were expected to come up with identification of specific areas of cooperation.
