NEW DELHI (PTI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s federal detective agency April 8 arrested a Member of Parliament (MP) of the Right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and four others for their alleged involvement in the demolition of the disputed structure in Ayodhya on December 6 last year.

Residences and offices of several other BJP leaders were also raided.

The Delhi residence of fundamentalist Bajrang Dal chief and BJP MP, Vinay Katiyar, the residences in Delhi and Aurangabad of Shiv Sena MP Moreshwar Save, and the residence and Ashram in Delhi of the BJP MP, Sacchidanand Harisakshi were also raided.

These are the first arrests four months after Babri mosque was pulled down by Hindu fanatics. It appears to be only a ploy to deflect the increasing criticism of from Muslims nations of India’s inaction to apprehend the Hindu leaders responsible for leading the destruction of the mosque and subsequent killings of Muslims. Our correspondent adds that the arrests were made on the eve of the SAARC meet to impress the South Asian leaders.
