NEW DELHI (PTI):The Indian Navy has formulated a Rs 300 crore plan to upgrade its sea harrier fleet by enhancing the jet aircrafts radar and weapon capability, according to Naval sources here.

The plan also envisages giving the sea harriers both lookup and lookdown radar capability, engine and air frame overhauls and increasing the fuel capacity of the aircraft to give it longer range capability. ‘The plans, the sources said, were aimed at extending the life of the 22 sea harriers with the Navy for another 15 years to enable them to serve the Navy’s needs till the early next century. The sea harriers were inducted into the Indian Navy in December 1983 and have already been in service for 10 years. The plan has been approved by the defense ministry and is pending for Union Cabinet approval.
