NEW DELHI: Unmindful of the raging international criticism of Beijing’s latest nuclear test, India and China, Bot down to a fresh round of boundary talks which envisage further troops reduction long their disputed border.

The opportunity for the talks was provided by the eighth meeting of their Joint Working Group (WG) on the boundary question, The 11member Chinese side to the two-day talks here was led by the Vice Foreign Minister, Tang Jiaxuan.

The Indian delegation, which includes officials from the ministries of external affairs and defense as well as representatives from the Army Headquarters is led by the Foreign Secretary, Salman’ Hardie Three hours of talks preceded by a one hour meeting between the heads of the two delegations, examined two agreements on steps to avoid airintrusions across the line of actual control (LAC) and on notifying military maneuvers near the LAC.

The two sides also reviewed confidence building measures (CBMs) initiated earlier by the SWG to “ensure peace and tranquility” especially in areas where their oops are in positions of close proximity.
