CHANDIGARH: Being an activist of the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) is costing her dearly. Dr. Vineeta Gupta, a young gynecologist in the Punjab Health Department, has been transferred eight times during the last two years and thrice during the last three months. The latest transfer order was issued this week. A member of the National Council ‘of the PUCL, her travails aggravated when she wrote to the National Human Rights Commission about the alleged misbehavior of a minister with a woman employee in 1993, Earlier, she had been exposing skeletons in the cupboard of the Health Department. In the department, which stinks of corruption, her confidential reports vouchsafe for her honesty.
Besides Dr. Vineet Gupta, even her brother Dr. Vitul Gupta, a postgraduate in medicine, was also transferred a number of times and ultimately resigned from the government service.
