Chandigarh: The Chief of the army staff Gen. A.S. Vaidya has called upon army personnel to maintain utmost vigil to counter any threat to country’s freedom and be prepared to make sacrifices in pursuit of national goals. Taking the salute at an impressive parade on the occasion of the army day on January 15 Gen. Vidya urged them to re-dedicate themselves to the service of the nation and said that army should once again come to the forefront. He said that the past year was full of unprecedented challenges and the army was put to test under extra-ordinary conditions. Yet we shouldered our responsibilities in the highest and best traditions.

General Vaidya said that in the past our soldiers fought many battles and won medals. It was not because we had a large army or had most sophisticated weapons. It was because we fought with tremendous courage. He said some people always wanted to create trouble in the country to destroy its unity. He added that it was the major task of the army to safeguard the unity and the sovereignty of the country. General Vidya also gave Sena medals,
