NEW DELHI: Only about 10 percent of truck drivers have about 50 percent knowledge of road

signs, while only 5 percent are aware of traffic rules.%

This was revealed in a study of 750 truck drivers undertaken by the Central Road Research Institute here. The study showed that only 1 percent of the truck drivers possessed adequate knowledge of road signs and traffic rules,

Drivers with higher educational background and informal training possessed better knowledge of traffic safety matters.

It emphasized the need for special attention in the matter of issuing licenses, safety education and training of drivers.
