LA HABRA HTS: The International Institute of Gurmat Studies Inc; one of the oldest Sikh organizations serving the Khalsa Panth since 1955, inaugurated its Central Valley Chapter in Madera, CA on April 23,1994. A special Kirtan Dewan was held at the Alpha Elementary School Auditorium in Madera to mark the occasion. The JGS, as the organization is popularly known commemorated the 295th birthday of the Khalsa in this Dewan.

Several Central Valley families have been sending their children, over the years to the Sikh Youth Camps held by the IGS. The chil 1 Valley Chapter after witnessing the transformation in their children that the IGS had brought. The JGS presence in the Central Valley, they feel, will inspire more youth to attend the Sikh youth. Camps and also have a place for regular get together for continued learning.

The inaugural Dewan was attended in large numbers by the Sikh families of this region. IIGS Kirtani Jathas of children from the Central Valley, San Jose and Los Angeles performed melodious. Gurbani Kirtan. The Kirtan was followed by Naam Simran. Dr Ranjit Singh Rajpal welcomed the Sangat and explained the purpose for starting the IGS Central Valley Chapter. Jasjit Kaur who co-ordinates the Northern California IGS chapter spoke cloquently of the role IGS has played through the years to spread the teachings of the Gurus. Captain Kanwar Harbhajan Singh of the IGS spoke of the love of the great Gurus that should be an intrinsic part of every Sikh’s life. He commented on the sorry state of the Sikh Youth in the Punjab and the need to rejuvenate the Khalsa spirit world wide. This program will be a monthly event and will be held on every fourth Saturday of the month at the same location. Dr.Ranjit Singh Rajpal will be coordinating the activities of this chapter. On the first and third Saturday of each month, IGS holds its Dewans at its Headquarters in La Habra Heights in Los Angeles area. Every second Saturday of the month, the Northern California Chapter of the IGS holds a Dewan in the Bay area.
