HOUSTON TX: First week of June marks a very important period in the Sikh calendar, when our fifth Master, Guru Arjun Dev embraced martyrdom in 1606 at the hands of hen rulers of India. To celebrate this day every year, thou- sands of Sikh pilgrim, men, women and children congregate in Gurdwaras (Sikh Shrines) in Punjab (The Sikh Homeland) and all over the world. It was then in 1984, the Indian Army attacked with tanks and troops, the holiest of the holy. The Golden Temple, Amritsar and 44 other major Gurdwaras in the Sikh Homeland. The Indian Army killed thousands and arrested hundreds pilgrims including children. In memory of those and thousands of others around the globe who laid down their life to preserve freedom and human rights, Sikhs of Houston have organized, every year, a Blood Drive for Peace and Human Dignity.

This year’s blood drive will be held on June 5, 1994 (Sunday) from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Sikh Center, 8819 Prairie Drive, Houston, TX. As usual, there will be LANGAR (free kitchen) for everyone after the prayer meeting.
