LONDON: The London based nonresident Indian businessman GP Hinduja said that he was “shocked and distressed” that his name had been included in the first information report (FIR) relating to the Bofors gun deal case and maintained that he was “totally uninvolved” in it.

In a statement issued to the press here after the FIR had been filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation in New Delhi, Hinduja said “the action implicating me is uncalled for as these allegations are no different from what had appeared in the media earlier and to which I went all the way to give voluntary clarifications with documentary evidence to prove the allegations were baseless none of which has been refuted.”

“It is a pity that despite this my name has been included in the FIR. I believe this is a part of the continuous process of maligning me and my group. Justice shall prevail and people responsible shall eventually face the consequences,” he said.

Recalling that the National Front government had given an assurance that there will be no vindictiveness, Hinduja said, “We trust the authorities shall keep this in mind while proceeding with the FIR and I am confident they will examine the matter with the care it deserves.”

Stating that he is “totally uninvolved”, Hinduja said that therefore he could not “help believing that there are some inimical persons within and outside the government who are trying to harm me and family’s reputation.”
