WASHINGTON: Heads of four organizations of people of Indian origin in the United States have sent letters to Indian Prime Minister Singh and foreign minister Gujral, urging them to retain Dr. Karan Singh as ambassador in Washington.
Dr. Birendra Dutt, national president of the Indian-American political action committee, California, said that in the short time Dr Karan Singh has been in office “he has done a remarkable job” presenting the Indian position on various sensitive issues to Congressmen and senators and that “his intellect, his understanding of political issues and his excellent oratory skills have indeed impressed all individuals both within the Indian-American community and the U S Congress”.
Bharat Bhargava, chairman of the national federation of Indian American associations, said Indians in America desired “to see Karan Singh continue as ambassador to this country”.
Amrish K Mahajan, president of the Hindu temple of Greater Chicago, said: “Singh’s excellent background and reputation in various scholastic areas, such as the study of the Bhagavat Gita, have given him an extra entre to the Indian communities in America’s major population centers. He has also made an outstanding impression with the American government”,
Inder Singh, president of the _ federation of Indian-American association said: “The Indian American community strongly supports the retention of Karan Singh as Indian’s ambassador to the united states.
