AMBALA, Punjab, India: Shiv Parshad,a B.J.P. MLA from Ambala was seriously injured with some gunshots, while one Sham Lal died on the spot when two gunmen shot at them on January 1, 1988.

At about 7:30a.m. Two gunmen (stated to be having turbans on their heads as claimed by the police), came to the tea shop of Shiv Parshad. After establishing the identity of Shiv Parshad they shot at him from a 9 mm revolver. Both the assailants came to his shop on a bicycle and were carrying a bundle of clothes.

Mr. Shiv Parshad received four gunshots. All other persons who were sitting on his shop ran away.

As Sham Lal, an employee of the adjoining shop, tried to catch hold of one of the gunmen his other colleague shot at him and killed him on the spot. The assailants succeeded in escaping after the incident.

Shiv Parshad was immediately removed to the civil hospital from where he was taken to P.G.L., Chandigarh. Mr. Shiv Parshad has been declared out of danger by the hospital authorities.
