NEW YORK: A fund raising dinner was held at the Penta Hotel in Manhattan here on February 28 for the Sikh Broadcasting Network which brings a weekly radio programme for the Sikh community.

The $30.00 a plate dinner was attended by 150 people from the tri state area and the Sri Guru

Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Glen Rock, NJ has pledged a help of $50.00 every week for the program, according to Amarjit Singh Ahluwalia the producer.

The Sikh Women’s International Organization (SWIO) also sponsored a broadcast. The Mid-Hudson Sikh Cultural Society has also promised to sponsor another one.

Amongst the speakers on the occasion was Dr. Gurcharan Singh of the Dept. of International Studies, Marymount Manhattan College, Sat Jiwan Singh Khalsa a New York lawyer, Dr. Satwant Kaur Dhamoon the President of the SWIO who also read a poem.

Harbhajan Singh Gill the Vice President of the World Sikh Organization also spoke on the occasion.

Prominent Punjabi singer Surinder Kaur regaled the audience with her songs and “Thunia Ram” who has often given comedy programs on the Jalandhar radio also gave a performance.

Two young Sikhs Pritpal Singh and Bhavdeep Singh also addressed the audience.

The Sikh Broadcasting Network is on 1050 AM and has a range of 150 miles from the New York City.
