KARACHI Pakistan, June 19, Reuter: The death toll from weekend riots in the Southern Pakistani city of Hyderabad rose to eight on Sunday when three more people died of their injuries, doctors said.
A government said soldiers with orders to shoot on sight on Saturday imposed a curfew in the industrial town 175 km east of Karachi after 500 students armed with wooden staves and hatchets ransacked the Mayor’s office.
Earlier on Sunday two policemen died of injuries sustained in the disturbances, bringing the death toll to five. Doctors said at least 40 people were injured in the fighting between rival ethnic groups.
