This is in reference to Dr. Harjinder Singh Dilgeer’s article in World Sikh News dated July 2430, 1996. In that issue he has written the Guru Gobind Singh revealed Khalsa on Baisakhi Samat 1755 (March 29, 1698) and not Baisakhi Samat 1756 (march 30, 1699). Dr. Ganda Singh, historian, had a detailed discussion on this subject (Baisakhi 1756) in the preface of Siri Guru Sobha by Kavi Sanapati and he has concluded that Khalsa was made “Pargat” on Baisakhi 1699 and not on Baisakhi 1698. Bhat Sewa Singh and Ratan Singh also agree with Dr. Ganda Singh.

Thy reason if Khalsa was made on Baisakhi 1698, the Hukam Namas of Guru Gobind Singh written after this date must have mentioned it in his Hukam Namas # 43, 44, and 45. But Hukam Namas written after Baisakhi 1699 reveal the fact, The Hukam Namas written to sangat of Kabul after eighty (80) days of this Baisakhi clearly mention that get Pahul from five Sikhs, Soin my opinion the Baisakhi of 1699 is the correct date for giving Pahul for the first time to convert Sikhs to Khalsa.
