AMRITSAR, Punjab, India: The acting President of the S.G.P.C., Mr Harinder Singh Tarn Taran, today said that at its Executive Committee meeting held recently in Chandigarh, the S.G.P.C. had unanimously rejected the resignation of Mr. Darshan Singh as acting Head Priest of Akal Takht.
This decision was conveyed to the Press but it could not be conveyed to Mr. Darshan Singh immediately as the meeting ended very late. The present controversy in the Press over this issue was baseless and wrong. He would personally convey the decision to Mr. Darshan Singh soon.
In another Press note, the S.G.P.C. said Mr. Gurbax Singh, priest of Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran, and Mr. Jagdish Singh, an employee of Darbar Sahib, had been arrested by the Patiala police from Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran and was taken to some unknown place on Wednesday last. The S.G.P.C. demanded their immediate release.
