CHADIGARH India: Unknown gunmen killed four persons, including a police constable, while the police rounded up a dozen persons in connection with the killing of Congress (I) Vice President and former Minister Jagat Ram, in the past 24 hours in Punjab.

Two gunmen shot dead Sarpanch Buta Singh in Chanankae Village under Mehta police station in Amnitsar district.

An official spokesman said that two gunmen shot dead a flour mill owner, Mr. Hans Raj Mahajan, in Dawaniwal village under Batala Sadar police station early this morning.

Three gunmen shot dead constable Nirmal Singh, belonging to the Excise staff and posted at Amritsar, at Bhamoli village under Batala Sardar police station. The police later identified ore of the assailants as Lakhwinder Singh, resident of the nearly Malikpur village.

 

The police recovered’ a bullet riddled body from a drain near Badala Khurd under Beas police station in Amritsar district. The body has been identified as that of Mr. Bakhshish Singh, resident of Kalerkee village under Mehta police station.

A report from Jullundur said the police arrested a Sikh young man.

A police press note identified the young man as Bagger of Gill village under Nakodar police station. The scooter he was riding had been impounded.

Two youths looted Rs. 5,000 from a petrol station at Old Grain Market in Kapurthala last evening.
