JALANDHAR: Sikh militants gunned own Punjab C.P.(M) leader Sarwan Singh Cheema along with his five armed gunmen rear Nurmahal on Monday,

A protege of top C.P(M) leader Harkishen Singh Surjeet, Cheema was a former Punjab Assembly member and at present was general secretary of Punjab Kisan Sabha, a paper organization of the party.

C.P (M) politburo in Delhi deplored the killings and said that the party had become the prime target of Sikh separatists. It called or urgent steps by the Indian government to resolve the Punjab problem.
