CHANDIGARH: Union home minister S.B. Chavan has criticized the agencies investigating: the assassination of Beant Singh saying they had “no business to divulge any information before completing the inquiry and reaching definite conclusions.”

It would not be proper to say if the “human bomb theory” was ‘correct at this stage, because the ‘ultimate finding might be different, he added.

Talking to reporters at Punjab Raj Bhawan after H.S. Brar was swominas chief minister, Chavan said he had told officials “not to ‘express opinions,” but they had not adhered to his instructions.

However, he refused to say what action he was contemplating against the erring officials, saying it was an “administrative matter.”

Chavan was obviously referring to the Press conference by Punjab police chief K.P.S. Gill and IG police (Union Territory) Y.S. Dadwal, who claimed to have made a breakthrough in the case and that a human bomb had killed Beant Singh.

Asked whether the assassination marked a revival of militancy in the state Chavan said; “I do not subscribe to it.” Such incidents were bound to occur as long as the instigator, Pakistan, and the ISI were present, he added.
