LUCKNOW: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) withdrew support to the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government this week, ending the 18month Samajwadi Party Bahujan Samaj Party alliance in Uttar Pradesh.
After conveying the party’s decision to the Governor, the Bahujan Samaj Legislature Party elected Ms. Mayawati as its leader and staked claim to form the Government with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress Janata Dal and others.
The BJP with 177 seats, immediately extended support to the BSP, but Congress president Jitendra Prasad remained non-committal, saying that the legislature panty would discuss the issue before taking a stand.
