JALANDHAR: Mr Harcharan Singh Brar, Chief Minister, Punjab has reiterated his resolve to further consolidate the hard won peace by late Chief Minister, Mr. Beant Singh in Punjab and his tirade against corruption and secessionism.

‘Speaking in the party’s political conference, Mr. Brar said that Beant Singh wiped out militancy and he is to fight at the front of corruption and secessionism and separatism.

The Chief Minister cautioned, what he called, misguided youth against the evil designs of Pakistan. Recalling sacrifices of Guru Teg Bahadur, whose Shaheedi day, was being celebrated he said youth should see through the evil designs of the neighboring country who is providing them with arms and ammunition to kill their own brothers and sisters.

Responding to the suggestions of various speakers including Mr. Avtar Henry, excise and taxation minister and Mr. Jai Kishan Saini, mayor Jalandhar Corporation, Mr. Brar agreed to waive off the last 10 year bills of water and sewerage charges to, the poorest poor living in poor localities in Jalandhar provided they assure to make payments of future bills. Assuring Jalandhar Bar Association of construction of judicial complex on priority basis here, Mr. Brar said that things are in final stage with foreign company for construction of a number of bridges falling at railway tracks and rivers etc. Mr. Brar said that giving more power was envisaged in the new Panchayat Act, is under the active consideration Of the government and that some departments will be brought under the preview of the Panchayati raj institutions as a first step while the remaining named in the new panchayat act will be covered later on, Regarding the demand of an airport in Doaba area, Mr. Brar said that some land had already been acquired and more would be acquired soon to give final shape to the project so that. NIRS of the area benefited from it, he said.
