CHANDIGARH India: On the call given by All India Sikh Student Federation (Kahlon group) for strike on September 19 traffic was jammed at many places and complete strike was observed at various places in the State The call for strike was given in protest against the continued detention of Sikhs in Jodhpur jail as also against the indiscriminate arrest of Federation leaders and workers in the State Police resorted to lathi charge in Batala when traffic between Guru Nanak College and Baring Christian College was jammed and buses were stoned. Nearly 35 persons were injured in the stone throwing. Twenty of them including some police officials were admitted to the hospital.

In Jalandhar strike was observed by Lyallpur Khalsa College LT. and other colleges. Traffic remained suspended in the city for many hours later students lifted the dharna after the district administration assured that the cases of the arrested students would be considered sympathetically.

Federation leaders demanded that two girl students Daljit Kaur and Inderjit Kaur should be released immediately.

In Amritsar district colleges remained closed because of the strike call this was claimed by a Federation spokesman S. Jagir Singh Verka. In Faridkot and Nakodar also colleges remained closed and traffic was jammed by Federation worker.
