SRINAGAR: Mass participation in the liberation movement in Kashmir was further stepped up last week when students of Kothi Bagh Girls Higher Secondary school, S.P. College and the College for Women staged demonstrations near the U.N. military head offices at Radio Kashmir Chowk and at the Broadway Hotel crossing here.

As many as 25 women and men students were injured as a result of firings by Indian security forces. The students wanted to submit a memorandum to the U.N. authorities seeking the world body’s help in arranging opinion poll in Kashmir. Governor Saxena in the meanwhile sought more forces from Delhi to rush the liberation movement.

Government employees went on a three day strike last week to express their support to the freedom movement while the Central authorities announced they would order a cut of the employee’s salary. However, there was no one to give effect to the order and the employees went away with full pay packets.

Work in most state government offices remained paralysed during the three day strike by state government employees against alleged atrocities by security forces.
