Berkely, CA: The Center for Asian Studies and the Punjab American community have launched a campaign to support the study of Punjabi language in the University of California Berkely. Individual students as well as Student groups have expressed desire to learn their parents language and to know more about the religion and culture, Being the native language millions of people in north India and Pakistan, it is spoken by millions of others both within and outside of South Asia.

‘The aim of the campaign is “to provide for the resources to ensure the teaching of Punjabi language as well as the cultural history of Punjab at Berkely.”

The organizers have called upon the Punjabi American community to get involved. Other ethnic ‘communities in the area have contributed substantially towards University programs such as the Korean Center. The University of California, Berkely is one of only: a handful of world-class centers for Asian studies in the United States and the only one in California, California state has the largest concentration of Punjabi speaking: people in the United States and there is. A definite need to setup a Punjabi language faculty in a good University. This is an excellent way for the community to enhance its image as being engaged positively in the support of institutions. That serves the nation.
