DHAKA (PTI): The Bangladesh government is considering making provision for capital punishment to stop trafficking of women  and children in the country Home Minister Abdul Matin Choudhury told Parliament.

We are considering enactment of a new law-women and children repression (Special provision) bill 1994 in the current session of Parliament making provision for awarding capital punishment to offenders he said in the house last week in reply to a call attention notice by a member of the ruling Bangladesh nationalist party.

Meanwhile police rescued 24 people 22 children and two women who were about to be Smuggled out of the country in Kurigram district bordering India last week Dainik Janakantha newspaper reported last week. Two traffickers were arrested in this connection.

Human Rights and women nights groups have from time to time expressed serious concern over smuggling of Bangladeshi women and children for immoral purposes. Particular concern was also expressed over use of Bangladeshi children in the camel races of some countries.
