PATIALA: While there was only three days left in the visit of Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao to Punjabi University, Patiala, the police have recovered another consignment of 18 kg RDX. The police arrested militant Charanjit Singh near village Gobindgarh Channa on the canal bridge, Demonstrating the recovered arms and ammunitions to media persons at the PAP commando training center at Bahadugarh near Punjabi University campus here. Director General of Punjab Police K.P.S. Gill said this was following the arrest of militants recently by the police in the State, Giving details, SSP, Patiala, H.S. Chahal said that the recovered carbines and magazines were the same which Jagtar Singh Harwara and Balwant Singh along with four other accused snatched from Amahala after killing an ASI, He said that in the preliminary interrogations. Charanjit Singh of village Khundi Majra of Ropar district had disclosed that this material was supplied to him by Paramjit Singh Bhiora alias Kala of Ropar district who was stated to be a member of Babbar Khalsa International.

Meanwhile, security forces have been deployed at the Punjabi university campus in large numbers, virtually converting the campus into a police cantonment. Senior security officers of all the concerned forces including CRPF, Commando Force, BSF, PP, are camping at Patiala in wake of the 83rd session of the Indian Sciences Congress Association to be inaugurated at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hall by Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao on January 3.

The other dignitaries reaching to attend the session are Finance Minister Manmohan Singh, Civil Supplies Minister Buta Singh, and Minister of State for Foreign R.L and Bhatia among others. About 6,000 delegates from the country and abroad are expected to participate in the deliberations on various scientific topics.
