Amritsar India: Mr. Yashpal, a Congress (I) local leader was shot dead near Tarn Taran by a scooter rider. The assailant escaped after killing his victim. This is the fourth murder of Congress leaders after Akalis took over the reigns of the government. Earlier Mr. Ram Lubhaya, Mr. Raj Pal Kadd and Mr. Jagdish Chander were shot dead in three different incidents.
The series of selected killings have caused a lot of resentment among the Hindus of Punjab. Nearly 3000 Hindus had stoned the police station after the killing of Mr. Ram Lubhaya. Akali government is reportedly feeling helpless. According to some sources the government is examining the possibility of Congress (I) involvement in the murders as its leaders would not like Akalis to succeed where they had miserably failed.
