FREMONT, About 1500 Sikhs gathered at Gurdwara Sahib, Fremont, California at an Akhandpath ceremony to pay homage to Martyrs Bhai Sukhdev Singh Babbar, the founder of Babbar Khalsa International and Bhal Gurjant Singh Budhsinghwala, Chief, Khalistan Liberation Force. Both these brave men were among the most elite Sikh freedom fighters of this century.

A Kavi Darbar (poetical symposium) was held on Aug. 27, 1994 in the evening in which many well-known Punjabi poets participated and paid tribute to the Sikh generals by singing poems and ballads. The Kavi Darbar started with Kirtan (hymn singing) in which the Ragi Singhs paid rich tribute to the Sikh martyrs. Several well-known poets such as Bhai Jangir Singh Mast, Bhai Jamail Singh, Bhai Azad Jalandhan, Bhai Bachitar Singh, Bhai Jasbir Singh gill, Bhai Pishaura Singh, and Bhai BachitarSingh Birowalia participated in this Kavi Darbar. The Kavi Darbar started at about 8 p.m. and continued till about 10:30 pm. The congregation enjoyed it greatly. I was one of the best Kavi Darbar programs held at Gurdwara Sahib Fremont. Bhai Bachitar Singh, who himself is a poet and speaker of high caliber, performed the duties of the stage secretary.

The theme of the poetical symposium was,

“Panth lai jawania (n) sambhia (n) ne,

 Panth lai jawania(n) Ia dlange”

We have saved our youth for the Khalsa Panth;

we will sacrifice it for the Khalsa Panth.
