PARIS: The Aid India consortium reduced its developmental assistance pledges to New Delhi to between 6.0and 6.5 billion dollars as compared to 6. 7 billion dollars committed last year.

The level of aid on concessional terms, however, has remained 3.2 billion dollars as last year. The development assistance to India on concessional terms in 1988 was 3.8 million dollars.

Briefing reporters after the two day consortium meeting, the finance secretary Dr. Bimal Jalan said the aid commitments were in keeping with the budgetary constraints of the donor countries and the financial institutions.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of the World Bank, was attended by 13 donor countries and several financial institutions.

Dr. Jalan said Italy had decided to convert its aid package to three yearly basis and its commitment would be announced after the Indo Italian bilateral meeting shortly.
